It all began on 11 February 1858 at the Grotto of Massabielle in Lourdes, when a 'Lady dressed in white' appeared to Bernadette Soubirous for the first time. Seventeen apparitions followed during which Bernadette asked the Lady her name. "I am the Immaculate Conception" was her reply. From these words, the vision sealed the solemn messages she had entrusted to the girl. Today over five million pilgrims visit the shrine of Lourdes each year to witness the living reality of Our Lady's requests for people to "Come in Procession" and wash in the 'Miraculous spring' which was uncovered by the young girl who was to be canonised Saint Bernadette in 1933.
